Thanks for all your efforts. You’re incredible.

But let’s think… if I knew the adress of the casting agent, I’d send her my life line and she wouldn’t know nothing about me anymore.. –
    Just saying. ;)

When they were doing casting for the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie they took the interesting tack of doing an online casting call. There was a website (through the studio, I believe) and kids could download “sides” and then make their own audition tape and upload it to the site. This then made them eligible for consideration … my son made a tape but then I refused to upload it because I am a mean and unreasonable mother and worried he’d done too good a job.
The whole set-up made for excellent pre-publicity for the film. Also is a fine way for both author and casting director to remove themselves personally from the equation. Don’t know if this would work for How I Live Now but thought it might be worth a mention.

Thanks for that, Sara. Very interesting — I’ve sent it on to various people who might sort it all out while I’m asleep…..

Oh, now I am seriously gutted! All those method acting classes for nothing. I can tell you, I’m a pretty convincing teenager for someone who’s 55!

  4. Kathryn Evans

So you don’t want me to play the goat?

  5. Amanda

Oh Meg, I feel for you. This fangley new technology sets the world up for sideways type change and new expectations every day… and it’s enough just getting the pooches walked and the words written. Here’s hoping the fangles will produce a neat solution in perfect sideways fashion.

  6. Sara

I dream about having people to sort things out while I’m asleep!
    You really are my hero.

Hi Meg, I think the book is brilliant and the movie shall present the book well. As I have seen how you have said about not knowing the casting director – I have told my management about this and cant seem to find her/him either but feel as you are the writer and the only person I am able to contact that I should mention that I feel very strongly into being one of the BRITISH COUSINS – If possible you could promt the idea of auditions or online auditions whether open casting or not, just as long as alot of people know about it. As I would realy love to get my teeth into one of your characters and nail the performance that is good enough for you and good enough to percieve the character you want the audience.

Please do let me know if you could by email

    Thank You Very Much

[...] Even author Meg Rosoff has been bombarded with questions regarding casting and even said over at her blog that she would not reveal who was casting to avoid the casting team being swamped by ‘people [...]

  12. Nicky

    That’s good(:
Thanks for trying anyway! It makes me and a lot of people happy to know you’re at least trying. A lot of author’s don’t bother to let people know.

    Thanks Meg! :D x

I really liked this book, I read it a while back but when I heard it was going to be made into a film I was over the moon. Seeing that I am also an aspiring actor and only a year older than Edmund and everybody thinks I am quirky, I WOULD LOVE TO BE IN THIS. But try and get back with news!

Have you got any further on casting? I love Sara’s idea of submitting videos? Thanks for all your efforts x

    1. Meg

      HI Emma
The best I can do at the moment is to suggest you watch out for school castings (I know they’re visiting lots of schools) or if you have an agent, have them investigate for you.
I know it’s frustrating, but they don’t want to make the process commercial by submitting videos….SORRY…

Any more info on casting for the film? My 9 yr old daughter would love to be Piper …

    1. Meg

Just a repeat here: The best I can do at the moment is to suggest you watch out for school castings (I know they’re visiting lots of schools) or if you have an agent, have them investigate for you.
      I know it’s frustrating….SORRY…

  16. Isabella

    Hi Meg,
I loved the book and know all these requests must be really frustrating for you! But is there really any way there could be open auditions?
    Thank you for trying xxx

    1. Meg

      HI Isabella
I’ve done my best but it looks like the casting director wants to go through agents and schools….wish I could do better for you….really.

      1. Isabella

I think I could be a really good Daisy, but I guess I am too late for casting?

I’m not seeing any casting updates and I missed the open auditions. I did send Cindy my headshot and resume, though. Do you have any new information?

    Thanks!
