If you’re between 13 and 19 (or can forge ID that proves you’re much older/younger than you really are) here’s your big chance to win a visit to the film set of How I Live Now.
You’ll meet Saoirse Ronan and find out exactly how exciting, difficult (and sometimes unglamorous) movie-making is, and I’ll be there too, shouting CUT! when I think I could direct better than Kevin MacDonald. At which point he will order a large steam roller from the transport department and have me flattened into a Meg-shaped disk and posted to Timbuktu. (Just a little crazed fantasy there. Having seen lots of the rushes already, I’d say that Kevin seems to be pretty much a genius.)
And as for Daisy (Saoirse Ronan) and Piper (Harley Bird), you will forget any image you ever had in your head of them the minute you see the actors, so make sure you read the book FIRST and make up your own mind.
Get to the Spinebreakers website and enter the competition now. It closes on August 6th.
Hope to meet you in glorious 3-D soon.
I notice that in the Olympic Football the teams are under 23 but they allow three over-age players. Do you think that might apply to this competition? If so I’ll enter!

What about if I was between 13-19 when “How I Live Now” first came out?
Can I enter then?
🙂
I am 22! I do look young for my age thought. I could pass for a 13-19 year old. Please can I enter? I love How I live Now, it is my favourite book in the world!
Can’t believe I will soon be too old for Spinebreakers. I’m still 19 though so I’ve entered!
Ohhhhh! At 52 I can’t even fake it – but it would be a fantastic opportunity!
I’m very short.
YES! I’m 17, very rarely do i qualify age wise for things! Application sent.
I can’t enter, I live in France:(
Have they named a winner yet?
HI Rowan
Yes, we have a winner — sorry not to get back to you sooner. Her name is Hope Kemp from Surrey — look out for her blog about it on http://www.spinebreakers.co.uk
Thanks Meg, gutted that I didn’t win (especially since it was the end of a long fight to get on to the set in some form) but it was nice to see I was on the favourites page for my entry. My technological incompetence prevented me from sending my audition tape for Edmond and it was a complete heartbreaker, however I assume George MacKay is doing a wonderful job?
Best of luck
Have to admit that yes, George has done an awesome job. I’m sure you would have been great too, Rowan….
Glad to hear it, I look forward to seeing the film and I’m glad that my loss was the film’s gain. The sad thing is I really know I would have been but nevertheless it’s an honour to hear that from you Meg. Congratulations and all the best
I’m being an extra in this film on Monday the 13th – I will look out for you! SO excited as this is my favourite book EVER!!
Hi Sophie
Hope to meet you tomorrow! I can’t wait — lucky you, being an extra…..
Can’t believe Piper is going to be play by Peppa Pig that will be really weird.
And as we all know, I’m the queen of weird, so I am SO happy about Harley (just wait till you see her).
