SURVIVOR

Every day,
I think about dying.
About disease, starvation,
violence, terrorism, war,
the end of the world.

It helps
keep my mind off things.

(I’m not saying it’s everyone’s sense of humour, mind you….)

Anyway, this weekend, I shall be taking my mind off everything — just down the beach from here.

That’s just brilliant. I’ve always loved McGough, and then this year at the Edinburgh festival I saw him sitting alone and went and spoke to him. We ended up getting quite drunk together. It was his 50th consecutive year at the festival … A lovely, rather wistful man, but also very funny, as you’d expect.

    divorced,
    usually pissed,
    He aimed low in life
    and missed
